SoftBank Robotics America Appoints Jordan Sun as Head of Product, Design, and Engineering


Sun was San Jose’s former chief innovation officer and chief operating officer for the Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan technology team.

Jordan brings deep, cross-industry global experience in technology, government, venture capital and startups.

Sun most recently served as Director of Innovation for the City of San Jose, where he grew a team of technologists from 3 to 40 and raised more than $4 million for civic tech companies. He built the city’s first data science team and created the first Digital Action Corps which launched a software product to enable access to mental health services in the city. Sun drove adoption of the city’s digital privacy policy and pioneered the promotion of decentralized wireless networks and cryptocurrency mining to bring free high-speed internet access to low-income households. income.

Prior to San Jose, Sun was deployed to Afghanistan as Chief Operating Officer and Product Manager for the Special Operations Joint Task Force Afghanistan Technology Team. He holds the rank of Major and leads the US Army Reserve’s Technology Reconnaissance Team in Silicon Valley. He also previously worked with the investment team of In-Q-Tel. Prior to deploying, Sun was Director of Business Development at Siemens Healthineers, where he later led a digital health business as CEO. He has held leadership positions in growth-stage startups and public health companies based in the Bay Area and Asia, including the commercialization of surgical robots for the treatment of cancer. Jordan began his career at a Japanese investment bank in New York then served as a US diplomat focused on the intersection of national security and technology.
