Opening of a design and product development center in Flintshire


A Saltney-based company has officially opened a new product design and development facility.

Specialists in wooden garden furniture, grow yourself and decorative garden structure, Zest – part of the P&A group of companies – opened its new design.shed Zest on March 1, in celebration of St David’s Day. .

The new building was opened by Lord Barry Jones, who was accompanied by his wife, Lady Janet Jones.

The facility is a state-of-the-art product design and development suite and innovation hub, and is part of Zest’s over £400,000 investment in facilities and development staff. products.

The building, a characterful renovation of a 1950s original, includes concept research and development facilities, the latest CAD design technology, a prototype construction area, a production studio and a marketing area.

The project continues Zest’s focus on design and innovation, influenced by a KTP with Cardiff Metropolitan University (knowledge transfer partnership focused on product design and strategic marketing ) which ended in 2021.

To date, six new jobs have been created within Zest Product Development and Marketing, including a new role – Head of Product Design and Innovation. Neil Sholes has been recruited to lead a team dedicated to designing new products to meet the needs of outdoor consumers.

P&A Group Chief Executive Steve Morgan said: “This is a building that has been redesigned and transformed, in a contemporary way, to provide an environment for creativity and collaboration.

“It was inspired by the company’s desire and commitment to be the consumer’s first choice in decorative wood garden structures, outdoor furniture and to grow your own products, and our passion to support our professional customers with the latest products in the category.”

Guests at the event enjoyed refreshments and a selection of homemade cakes provided and served by The Woodworks Cafe, also part of the P&A group of companies and based in Mold at the Woodworks Garden Centre.
