King’s College London and FourthRev Launch First Product Management Career Accelerator

  • A program developed for beginners or career changers who are taking their first steps in product management, as well as for those who are already working in product management and wish to formalize their existing experience.

LONDON, July 07, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–As the digital economy continues to evolve, many businesses are experiencing a sea change in the skills they need to thrive and grow. A key area where skills are most in demand is in product management roles. That is why King’s College London today announces the launch of King’s Product Management Career Acceleratorin partnership with Fourth Revthe digital education enterprise.

The 6-month program was developed by King’s Digital Humanities department, working with leaders from organizations including Atlassian, Dropbox, Mr Yum, Linktree and industry expert Janna Bastow, CEO of ProdPad. With a curriculum co-designed by global technology companies and leading employers, the program offers an immersive, project-based experience for learners who want to pursue a career as a product manager. The Career Accelerator Capstone Employer Project allows students to work with an employer partner on real industry issues, where they have the opportunity to demonstrate and apply the abilities they have developed throughout the program, while creating significant organizational value for partners.

A key element of the program is its emphasis on developing the in-demand skills and experience expected of product managers in today’s digital economy. Product managers often oversee multiple departments, manage relationships between different teams, and liaise with customers and external stakeholders, all of which require a diverse skill set. King’s Product Management Career Accelerator exposes learners to both technical knowledge and soft skills specifically related to product management, such as product design and UX, as well as cultivating interpersonal skills in a professional environment, including structured thinking and decision-making, communication and stakeholder management.

Professor Smithies, Career Accelerator Program Coordinator and Professor of Digital Humanities at King’s College London, commented: “The King’s Product Management Career Accelerator connects academia and industry in a true partnership that gives students the confidence and skills they need to succeed in complex digital environments, ensuring they can design products that meet the needs of business, government and society and drawing on the expertise and strengths of King’s Digital Humanities Department.

Professor Marion Thain, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, King’s College London added: “King’s is delighted to be developing shorter courses through this partnership (to complement our more traditional degree offerings) as it allows us to share our expertise more widely. We are truly proud of the incredible talent we have in this important field, placing us at the forefront of digital developments, and we want as many people as possible to benefit from it. The skills and knowledge we offer are essential to meet the great challenges of the 21st century. This is King’s La mission to make the world a better place, and supporting the progression of people who are already in the workplace (as well as the more typical graduate student) needs to be a part of that. It’s also great to have that pathway to work more with industry experts and we look forward to further developing these relationships for the benefit of all parties.”

Mark Lester, Director of Partnerships at FouthRev, added: “We are delighted to launch the Product Management Career Accelerator with King’s College London. Whether you are looking to launch a career in product management or deepen your expertise in product management, the Career Accelerator brings together the wealth of practical knowledge from veteran product teams, the experience of delivering authentic employer-designed business projects, and the academic rigor and analytical skills development of a world-leading research university, so that learners can acquire the skills that are relevant and essential to achieving their career goals.”

The King’s Product Management Career Accelerator will open applications in July 2022, with the first learners starting their studies later this year. While available to anyone, King’s and FourthRev expect the program to appeal most to those just starting out and looking for an “entry” into the product management space, as well as those who have 1 2 years of experience.

Participants will be assigned a career coach for the duration of the programme, providing access to 1:1 coaching focused on personal career progression and development and at the end of the course students will receive a certification of completion from King’s College of London.
