IIT Madras creates a chair on innovation and product development



An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras donated $1,60,000 to establish a chair in innovation and new product development.

IIT launched the Venkataraman and Sita Srinivasan Chair on Wednesday with the endowment granted by V. ‘Seenu’ Srinivasan, Emeritus Adams Professor of Management, Stanford University.

Mr. Srinivasan received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT in 1966 with a Gold Medal. The former director of Stanford Business School’s doctoral program, chairman of the marketing domain and faculty director of its Strategic Marketing Management Executive Program, who participated in the event virtually, said, “IIT Madras played a major role in my life. I am extremely grateful for the excellent education I received at IIT Madras. Being myself a tenured professor at Stanford University for 40 years, I firmly believe that high quality education is essential to India’s progress and hope that this donation will help to further improve quality education. , which IIT Madras already provides very well. ”

He said he gives back to his country by teaching students at the Indian School of Business and the Great Lakes Institute of Management, in addition to the staffing. He dedicated the chair to his father Venkataraman and his wife Sita.

IIT Director V. Kamakoti said Mr. Srinivasan was inspiring with his achievements. The institute had been emphasizing innovation for the past two decades. “We are moving towards translational research that allows the institute to solve societal problems,” he said.
