Industrial engineering, e-commerce and business software development – do these words go with interior and apartment design? Well, for Waiz Rahim, they do. Waiz, an industrial engineer, owner of a professional e-commerce and software company, himself said, “What these different work sectors have in common is product design and technology.”

And it all makes sense. Innovation and project design are family for Waiz. His ancestor AC Abdur Rahim is the founder of Rahimafrooz, one of the largest business groups in Bangladesh.

After completing industrial engineering, Waiz began developing Deligram, an e-commerce site. Then Projekt.in, a website creation company.

And that’s what inspired him to design a serene lake-facing apartment in the capital’s Gulshan district. The 1,400 square foot apartment is on the top floor of Lake Mustofa Castle, a residential building located on the shores of Hatir Jheel.

As Waiz envisioned what the space should look like, his friend architect Md Sharfuddin Siddique, lead architect of Aa-kar Architects, brought those ideas to life. As Sharfuddin said, “The location of the apartments played a big role here. As the view of the lake is the crown jewel of the project, we tried to open up the space as much as possible towards the lake.”

Owned by Waiz Rahim himself, the apartment is now for sale. Waiz said: “I wanted to create a cozy family space, where at the end of the day all the members would gather in the dining room to enjoy their meal with a fabulous view and would look forward to having that every day. days.” He hopes to find that client who will truly cherish this space.

“It was love at first sight and I took the apartment”

In Waiz’s own words, “Since my childhood, I was into architecture and civil engineering. I even designed architectural models with whatever materials I found. For some reason, my academic pursuits left me oriented more towards industrial design and engineering.”

But it was during the pandemic in 2020 that he had the opportunity to design an apartment. “One evening, I was driving on the Gulshan – Hatir Jheel Lake secondary road and stood in front of an under-built building. As I walked up to the top floor, the view took my breath away. It was love at first sight for me and took the apartment.”

But Waiz, a design-oriented product, knew that this apartment had a lot of possibilities. So he decided to rethink the layout and consulted his architect friend Sharfuddin.

To start, let’s see what the initial design looked like. It is essentially a lake front apartment with three bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms, a shared bathroom, a dedicated kitchen area and an additional kitchenette adjacent to the dining room and family living area .

Although the front of the apartment faces the lake, during the initial layout, the common areas of the apartment such as the living room and dining room were placed at the rear with no connection or view of the lake.

Architect Sharfuddin shared. “For our client – Waiz Rahim, it was a major challenge as we all wanted the beautiful nature and lake view to permeate the interior space.”
